July CCLA Updates

Hope everyone is staying safe in this heat — it’s been a scorcher. Please take care and avoid unnecessary risks; heat can sneak up on you.

Brief update:

  1. Court hearing — August 7, 2026, 10:00 a.m., Cumberland Courthouse, Cumberland, VA. We remain on the docket. Please plan to attend; your presence and support are important.

  2. CCLA Community Townhall — August 9, 2026, 3:00 p.m., Cumberland Community Center, 71 Community Drive, Cumberland, VA 23040. Given the court hearing two days earlier, we expect a full agenda and meaningful discussion.

  3. Legal preparations — CCLA is working closely with our attorney to prepare for the court date. There is a lot involved; any support you can offer is greatly appreciated.

  4. Host agreement update — The Second Amended and Restated Host Agreement that the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors acted on July 28, 2025, was signed by a Green Ridge representative (not Jerry Cifor) on April 24, 2026.

  5. Keep writing — Please continue sending letters to the editor and contacting federal, state, and local officials. Keep our concerns about the proposed landfill visible.

  6. We will share new information as it becomes available.

How you can help:

  • Yard signs: We have two yard-sign designs and stakes available at no cost. To request signs, email info@cclava.com, call 804-308-5748, or mail P.O. Box 238, Cumberland, VA 23040.

  • Volunteer needs: We also need help with fundraising, research, advertising, and other tasks. Please share your skills and volunteer if you can.

Your continuted support is vital as we approach new challenges in 2026. One important thing to remember we are being successful – we are now into our 9 th year of this marathon - and the proposed Green Ridge landfill (Jerry Cifor’s Legacy) has not found a home in Cumberland County.

THANKS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!
