WELCOME TO 2026.
CCLA wishes you the very best for the coming year.
Hopefully your holidays were joyful, healthy, and safe.
INFORMATION UPDATE
February 8, 2026 – this is our first meeting for 2026. Location is Cumberland County Community Center (Luther P Jackson School), 71 Community Drive, Cumberland, VA. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. or soon thereafter. At this time, we do not have a guest speaker scheduled. We feel it is important to provide updates on what has occurred since the July 2025 Public Hearing and decide on actions for the upcoming year. We will have hard copies of all the legal documents filed for your review at this meeting. We plan to also post the legal documents of this website. Please see the full schedule of meeting dates under the Events Tab.
January 14, 2026 – first day of the 2026 Virginia General Assembly session. Since this is an even-numbered year, the session is 60 days. We ask your help to look for bills that may foster our concerns with protecting our environment. We try to stay alert and let you know of certain bills as they progress through the Senators and Delegates bill procedures. Keep in mind we have new head leaders being sworn in during January 2026. Also, it might be an excellent idea to get a group together and visit the Delegates and Senators in unity. If interested, please contact us by email, phone, or in person.
Legal 2025 into 2026 – CCLA is currently working on two separate legal cases concerning the proposed Green Ridge landfill. The first one filed in September 2024 is still outstanding. The second one was filed in August 2025, as our Appeal of the actions taken by the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors at the Public Hearing on July 28, 2025. This was the date when the Board approved the Second Amended and Restated Host Agreement and conditional use permit 24-01 as related to the proposed landfill.
CCLA is now working with our attorney on these two cases which entails completing documents for both cases and submitting them to the Court, lawyer firm, and two judges. We should note Green Ridge filed legal documents in early December 2025, to intervene in both cases. Needless to say, it has kept us busy during the holiday season. At this point, we are awaiting responses to our latest filed documents. It was announced at the December Board of Supervisors meeting on December 22, 2025, that Green Ridge has not yet signed the Second Amended and Restated Host Agreement. Interesting, since during the time leading up to the Public Hearing, all we heard from Green Ridge was their need to get this landfill operational.
Need Your Help – CCLA certainly appreciates each of you and your continued support in preventing this proposed landfill from becoming a reality in Cumberland County. We hate to ask this of you, especially just after the holidays, but can you spare just a few dollars to donate to the cause. The Leadership Team is doing our best to keep expenses down. We are working closely with our attorney to keep legal costs down, but it is a necessary cost if we want to fight to save our environment. If everyone who reads this message donates just $5, it would be a great help to us and greatly appreciated. Please help us to protect your environment by fighting against the proposed Green Ridge landfill.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!
Petition – CCLA now has a NEW petition circulating for people who oppose the proposed landfill to sign. If you haven’t already done so, please sign it. This one contains a column for Cumberland County residents to indicate their district. It is important for us to do this, so when the time is right, we can present up-to-date information to DEQ. We closed out the original 2018 petition and sent the forms to the DEQ. Things changed over the last 7 plus years and it is important we keep our information current.
The petition is available in hard copy and in electronic copy. The electronic version is under the “Take Action” tab on this website. If you prefer a hard copy, it is included in this writing. This form gives you the opportunity to take it and ask your family, neighbors, friends to sign. (insert petition form here). Please contact us if you need additional information or how to get the completed forms to the proper CCLA person.
