February CCLA Update

March 8, 2026 – this is the rescheduled date for the meeting that was to be held in February and was cancelled due to the cold and icy weather. The time for the meeting
is 3 p.m. at the Cumberland County Community Center, 71 Community Center Drive, Cumberland, VA (the Luther P. Jackson School). We will be providing updates on
various issues and discussing future plans for 2026. Please plan to come and bring a friend or two. See flyer at the Events tab for more information.

Legal 2025 into 2026 – CCLA is currently working on two separate legal cases concerning the proposed Green Ridge landfill. The first one filed in September 2024 is still outstanding. The second one was filed in August 2025, as our Appeal of the actions taken by the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors at the Public Hearing on July 28, 2025. This was the date when the Board approved the Second Amended and Restated Host Agreement and conditional use permit 24-01 as related to the proposed landfill.

CCLA is now working with our attorney on these two cases which entails completing documents for both cases and submitting them to the Court, lawyer firm, and two judges.

At this point, CCLA has filed all the necessary paperwork requested and waiting on opposing counsel to take the next action. All the legal filings regarding these two cases, is now located under Legal Filings tab on this website. As of the date of this writing, it is still not known if Green Ridge has signed the Second Amended and Restated Host Agreement. To the best of our knowledge, no date has been set for a court hearing. When this information becomes available, we will post it on this website and use other media avenues to get the word out. Our goal is to have the court room filled to overflowing.

Request for Your Assistance

Do you have a particular talent such as letter writing, advertising, social media, computers, or others where you maybe can assist use? Are you a user or formal user of Mailchimp? If so, we sure could use your assistance as it is recommended for us to do a campaign and get a specific message out to the public. There are so many ways you can help CCLA in our efforts to stop the proposed landfill from coming to realization in Cumberland County.

Although monetary contributions, are always greatly appreciated, there are many other areas where you can volunteer. For example, you can with research, arrange for CCLA to do a presentation before a group or organization, help with manning a site to get people to sign our petition which will be presented to the DEQ when the time is appropriate, write letters, solicit donations from environmental groups or well-known individuals, and many more. Your help could be as simple as an idea for a fundraiser or volunteering to help with social media. The main, most important points to take from all this, your help is needed. Everything counts no matter how minor it may seem to you, it speaks volumes to us.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!

Petition – CCLA now has a NEW petition circulating for people who oppose the proposed landfill to sign. If you haven’t already done so, please sign it. This one contains a column for Cumberland County residents to indicate their district. It is important for us to do this, so when the time is right, we can present up-to-date information to DEQ. The electronic version is under the “Take Action” tab on this website and you can print it off and circulate to others for their signature and then turn it in to us. Please contact us if you need additional information or how to get the completed forms to the proper CCLA person.

There is strength in Unity and We are United!!
